Episode #235: Showdown

This week it's our annual Thanksgiving all-covers episode. Putting this show together entails me visiting whosampled.com and searching for certain titles or artists that pop into my head. I then choose among the listed soul, R&B, early hip-hop, or disco covers of the titles in question and throw them on the show. For example, I searched for covers of songs by Chicago and found a decent version of "Make Me Smile" by Joe Bataan. I also do some searches that are totally inappropriate and irresponsible, like checking to see if anyone has done a cover of Napoleon XIV's "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!" The answer? Just another example of why Biz Markie is going to be missed.

*(P.S. - On the show, I mistakenly say Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life" is a cover of an Anthony Newley-Leslie Bricusse song. It was actually written by Ron Miller and Orlando Murden in 1965 and originally recorded by Connie Haines.)
