Episode #230: The Blues Don't Care
The third week in October is when Star Time has its annual Blues Summit. This is the fifth one, in a calendar year when blues music feels a little too appropriate. Unlike previous BS's, this year's collection focused pretty squarely on '60s and '70s blues, with a few late '50s entrants thrown in for good measure. I dug up some more obscure musicians, which explains the appearance of incredible artists like Maxwell Street Jimmy Davis and Mable Hillery. But we also went with old reliables like John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and the omnipresent Lightnin' Hopkins. It's always a fun show, with just the right amount of supportive melancholy.
