Episode #63: Sweet Dynamite
Episode 63 features a tribute to Salsoul Records, one of the prime disco outlets of the late '70s. Their roster list was actually a compendium of disco, funk, Latin soul and straight-up R&B. There are a few Salsoul facts that I learned while putting this show together. They released the first 12-inch disco single ever (Double Exposure's "Ten Percent"). Their name was invented by Latin soul legend Joe Bataan. And they had a habit of, oh, let's say, tactically rewriting some songs that were already hits. There are two such songs on this show (Martha High and, though I forgot to mention it, the Joe Bataan/Jocelyn Brown collab). You're never too old for Angel Flights. (Yes you are. -- Ed.)
